DPIIT startup recognition support

Prepare the evidence and narrative for a genuine startup-recognition application while keeping benefit applications separate.

Before you begin

DPIIT recognition and income-tax relief are different determinations. Startup India directs applicants to use their own details and contact information; its recognition application has no government fee. Professional preparation support is a separate service.

Prepare a factual description of the product or service, the problem addressed and how the business differs from an ordinary description of its industry. Use the entity’s own records to support the explanation rather than borrowing a generic innovation narrative.

What the engagement covers

We assess the application narrative, organise innovation and business-model evidence, and help resolve document inconsistencies. The startup retains control of its account and declarations. We are not a DPIIT-appointed representative and do not guarantee recognition.

The preparation pack can include a narrative draft, an evidence index and a list of inconsistencies between the application, formation records and supporting material. The founders confirm factual statements and retain responsibility for their declarations. Query support should preserve the original submission and show what additional evidence answers each question.

Records to prepare

  • Formation certificate
  • entity and founder details
  • business description
  • evidence of innovation or improvement
  • growth and employment context
  • financial and age information relevant to the current definition.

Useful supporting material may include product demonstrations, process descriptions, development records or customer-use evidence relevant to the actual claim. Identify the date and owner of each item, and remove unnecessary personal or confidential customer information before sharing it.

A decision worth resolving early

Do not assume an older turnover or age definition remains current, or that recognition grants all benefits. Check the operative notification and the separate conditions for each scheme before making a claim.

For example, a business claiming an improved manufacturing process should explain what changed and the evidence supporting that description. A marketing slogan or a large projected market alone does not explain the claimed improvement. Keep any separate benefit application on its own checklist.

Scope and fees

Professional fees cover only the preparation or query support stated in the proposal; the recognition application itself has no government fee, as noted above. Tax-benefit applications, fundraising documents and other scheme applications are separate assignments. The completion record includes the submitted version, acknowledgement, queries and outcome available at handover. See the startup business guide for related operating questions.
