Industries

Explore compliance through the way your industry actually operates: its customers, products, workforce, premises and transactions.

An operating-model view

Two businesses in the same sector can face different questions. A marketplace and an inventory seller, a manufacturer and an importer, or a clinic and a hospital should not use an identical checklist.

  • Describe what you sell and how it reaches the customer.
  • Identify regulated products, claims and professional activities.
  • Map warehouses, offices, production facilities and outsourced work.

Choose the page that matches what you actually do

Start with the activity that creates your immediate compliance question. A software business selling subscriptions has different operational records from a platform arranging transactions for others. A food brand may manufacture its own products, buy finished goods or use a contract manufacturer. Write down those roles before selecting a service.

  1. Follow the customer transaction. Identify who contracts, invoices, receives payment and handles returns or complaints.
  2. Follow the product or service. Identify who produces, imports, stores, transports or performs it, including outsourced steps.
  3. Follow the premises and people. List operating sites and the teams, contractors or professionals involved.
  4. Follow the information. Note the customer, workforce and business data collected, the systems used and who receives it.

Use more than one industry guide when activities overlap

A direct-to-consumer food business can start with D2C and ecommerce for its selling model, food and beverages for the product, and logistics and warehousing for its stock flow. The purpose is to identify separate questions, not to assume that every item in every guide applies.

Likewise, a healthcare operator introducing an online booking service should describe the clinical service and the digital platform separately. A technology label does not explain who delivers the underlying service, holds the customer relationship or keeps the records.

Prepare an operating brief for the assignment

  • Describe the products or services, customer types and sales channels.
  • List your role at each step, including outsourced production or fulfilment.
  • Identify premises, existing permissions and planned changes in activity.
  • Collect sample contracts, invoices and process records that explain how the operation works.
  • Record the specific question and desired output: a registration assessment, contract, accounting process or response to a notice.

Keep commercially sensitive and personal information in a controlled document exchange. An initial enquiry can describe the issue without supplying a full customer or employee dataset.

Combine the chosen industry page with your business structure and operating locations. For an opening or expansion, the journey directory connects the work into an ordered handoff.
