Check the actual location

Registered office, warehouse, factory and employee work locations can differ. Local registrations depend on the place and activity, and a national registration is not a substitute for a state or municipal permission.

  • Keep a location register with addresses, activities and local authority.
  • Match each licence to the correct operator and premises.
  • Record conditions, renewal dates and change-notification requirements.

Prepare one record for each operating location

Start with the legal entity operating the site, its full address, the activity carried out there and the person responsible for the records. Distinguish an office from a warehouse, customer-facing outlet, production site or employee's home. A single business may need several separate location assessments.

  • Collect the lease or ownership evidence, occupancy details and permissions already held. Record whose name appears on each document.
  • Describe goods stored, equipment used, customer access and any activity handled by a landlord or contractor.
  • Identify the employing entity and where people actually work; retain personal employee information in restricted records.
  • List existing certificates with their covered premises, activity, conditions and renewal or change dates.

Use this pack to identify missing facts before selecting an application. A certificate for a landlord, previous occupier or another group entity needs its scope checked against your intended operation.

Connect local facts with national guidance

The jurisdiction pages explain local starting points. Use these guides for questions that cut across the directory, then return to the relevant state's official sources for its procedure and current instruments.

Carry the assessment through to opening and changes

For each identified obligation, record the source, the facts used, the responsible owner and the next action. Keep an application acknowledgement separate from an issued permission. If the requirement is uncertain, record the question and the evidence needed to resolve it instead of treating it as complete.

For example, a business adding a warehouse in another state can use a separate location pack for the warehouse operator, stock ownership, dispatch flow and staffing. That pack helps the tax, premises and payroll work proceed from the same facts without assuming that the existing office's registrations cover the new site.

The state-expansion journey provides an opening handoff sequence. Revisit the register when the operator, activity, workforce or premises changes.
