Define the workplace before filing

Assess the Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments framework for the actual office, shop or service operation. Keep the activity description, employee details and premises documents consistent across applications. Manufacturing and other specialised operations need a separate assessment rather than an office-only checklist.

The e-Karmika service route is associated with establishment applications. Confirm the current application instructions and any linked service migration with the Labour Department before submitting; a portal account or fee receipt is not the issued certificate.

Use the current professional-tax portal

Karnataka’s professional-tax service now points users to ptax.karnataka.gov.in. Assess employer registration for employee deductions separately from enrolment liability under the applicable schedule. Preserve the correct account reference when moving from an older portal.

Use the relevant financial year’s official rate, exemption and payment instructions. A dated extension displayed on the portal applies only to its stated period; it should not become a permanent deadline in the business calendar.

Assess labour welfare independently

Karnataka has a Labour Welfare Board and contribution framework. Check establishment coverage, eligible employees and the current contribution notification before making deductions or remitting amounts. Keep employee and employer portions, the contribution period and payment evidence identifiable.

Professional tax, labour welfare and national payroll requirements are separate assessments. Maintain wage classifications, attendance and leave records, and confirm the effective instruments when changing processes for labour-code implementation.

Identify the competent local authority

For a Bengaluru premises, establish the current municipal and planning jurisdiction for the exact address; do not assume a historic city-wide service route remains correct. Other cities and industrial areas have their own authority arrangements. Check permitted use, occupancy, trade and fire requirements against the site.

Industrial processes may require Karnataka State Pollution Control Board consents and waste permissions. A technology-sector label does not remove premises, workforce or activity-specific obligations.

Prepare a branch-opening file

  • Entity records, signatory authority and ownership or lease evidence.
  • Address, permitted use, layout and applicable building or fire documents.
  • Workforce and payroll details for establishment, professional-tax and welfare assessments.
  • Activity-specific permissions and relevant pollution records.
  • Certificates, conditions, change events and the person responsible for each renewal.

Example: an office adding a hardware laboratory

An IT business introducing assembly, chemical use or equipment testing should review the changed process and site requirements before beginning. The existing office registration and software-service accounting do not describe every new activity. Kosha can coordinate business records alongside the appropriate technical and regulatory specialists.
