Read with your facts in view

Entity, period, jurisdiction and transaction details matter. A general guide cannot determine every exemption or individual filing position. Keep the source period and your own facts together when using an explanation.

Start with the question you need to answer

  • Company law: compare entity structures, organise company records and understand recurring corporate filings.
  • GST: assess registration facts, prepare returns and reconcile invoices, tax payments and input credits.
  • Income tax: organise return evidence, distinguish tax periods and prepare for withholding, audit or a notice.
  • Employment: review hiring arrangements, payroll records and workplace obligations.
  • International business: prepare for imports, exports, foreign investment and overseas reporting.
  • Regulatory approvals: identify the product, activity and premises facts needed for licensing, labelling and operating requirements.
  • Transactions: organise fundraising, diligence, acquisitions, restructuring and business closure.

Turn an explanation into a working file

Start with the guide’s scope, then list the facts and documents it asks you to establish. Record unanswered questions instead of treating missing information as an exemption. For a transaction touching several disciplines, keep one action list with an owner for each workstream.

For example, a company receiving overseas investment may use the company-law guides for its corporate records, international guides for investment reporting and transaction guides for the closing checklist. Each addresses a different part of the same event.

Check the period covered by a source and any stated commencement date. A page update date records an editorial change; it does not make every linked instrument current for a later transaction. Use the compliance calendar for the separately stated deadline records and follow each guide’s related service links when you need help applying it.
