West Bengal business compliance

Coordinate West Bengal profession-tax accounts, establishment records and local trade permissions without treating them as one registration.

Choose the correct establishment and trade route

The West Bengal Labour Commissionerate provides shops and establishments services, including a Kolkata-specific service entry. The Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department also describes a common application for trade licensing and shops registration. Confirm the current route for the exact local body and service.

A combined application does not make the resulting obligations identical. Keep the Certificate of Enlistment or trade permission distinct from the labour registration and retain the conditions attached to each.

Separate profession-tax enrolment and employer registration

West Bengal’s profession-tax portal provides separate enrolment and registration services. Assess liability of the business or professional separately from an employer’s employee-deduction responsibilities. Use the correct identifier for payments, returns and payment certificates.

Keep payroll classifications and the relevant period’s rates supported by current official instructions. A payment certificate is evidence of the account’s payment position, not a substitute for checking all establishment or municipal obligations.

Assess labour welfare and employment requirements

The West Bengal Labour Welfare Board provides a contribution service. Determine covered establishments and employees, contribution periods and current requirements before deductions and payment. Keep welfare records separate from profession-tax accounts and national contributions.

Maintain working-time, wage, leave and holiday records under the regime applicable to the workplace. For manufacturing, construction or contractor deployments, assess the separate requirements and current commencement notifications rather than extending a shops checklist to every activity.

Build the premises permission map

  • Exact municipal, panchayat or industrial-area jurisdiction and lawful occupancy.
  • Trade classification, building use, fire and utility requirements.
  • West Bengal Pollution Control Board permissions for relevant processes and wastes.
  • Sector-specific food, health, legal-metrology or other permissions.
  • Certificates, renewal events and changes in activity, workforce or premises.

Example: trade-licence renewal and an added activity

A business renewing its local trade permission while adding a workshop should check whether the new activity changes its classification or needs additional approvals. A successful renewal of the old description does not establish permission for the workshop. Keep the amended activity aligned across labour, premises and accounting records.

Keep applications and issued records linked

Silpa Sathi and departmental portals may route new applications and renewals differently. Check the current service notice, retain old application references and avoid duplicate submissions. Kosha can coordinate accounts and administrative evidence alongside the relevant technical and statutory professionals.
