Approach and deliverables
We identify the issuing authority, statutory provision, relevant period, service date and response channel before drafting. The notice may concern a processing mismatch, information request or an assessment issue; the same response format will not suit every case.
The deliverable includes a notice summary, evidence request, draft response and submission record where filing is in scope. We reconcile return figures with books, tax credits and the particular information requested.
Prepare an issue register using the question numbers in the notice. For each question, identify the relevant return figure, supporting record, explanation needed and person who can confirm the facts. Keep unanswered questions visible rather than merging them into a general narrative.
Records for the case file
- Complete notice and attachments
- Return, computation and financial statements
- Tax-credit and payment records
- Earlier responses and portal acknowledgements
Retain the original notice and the complete version of every earlier submission. Give schedules and attachments stable names so the draft can point to the exact evidence. If a figure changes during reconciliation, record the reason and carry the corrected figure through every affected schedule.
A practical example
A mismatch between reported receipts and a return needs a reconciliation explaining timing and classification, rather than a bare statement that the return is correct.
For example, receipts shown by a payer may combine an advance and a later invoice. A useful reconciliation separates the amounts, dates and accounting treatment and identifies the records supporting each entry. An unexplained balancing figure would leave the original question unresolved.
Engagement boundaries
The applicable Act and procedural rules depend on the period and proceeding, including transition provisions. Representation requires a valid authorisation and eligible professional; no notice closure is guaranteed.
The proposal states the period, procedural stage, drafting and appearance work included. Share the deadline during intake; a public enquiry does not appoint a representative or extend any statutory time limit.
The handover distinguishes the approved draft from the version actually submitted and retains its acknowledgement. Record any question left open, the next communication expected and who will monitor the response channel; drafting completion alone is not a case outcome.
