Approach and deliverables
We distinguish administrative tax proceedings from criminal allegations and proposed writ relief. Counsel evaluates maintainability, available remedies, urgency and the relevant court or prosecution procedure.
Our coordination scope can include a dated chronology, indexed record, tax computation support and a questions list for legal advisers. Draft affidavits and factual statements are checked with the person who can verify them.
Prepare a chronology linking each procedural event to the complete underlying document. Identify the people and entities named in each communication and the person able to confirm the business facts, leaving legal characterisation and proposed relief for counsel’s assessment.
Records for the case file
- Complaint, summons, sanction or challenged order
- Service records and proceeding chronology
- Prior responses and available remedies pursued
- Authorisations and evidence supporting urgent relief
Keep complete documents with their annexures and preserve the available record of receipt. Label draft statements separately from signed or filed versions, and maintain a questions list for missing evidence rather than filling gaps with an assumed sequence of events.
A practical example
A business challenging a procedural defect still needs a complete record of notices and responses. Selective extracts can obscure the issue counsel must place before the court.
Where a business says it did not receive a communication before an order, gather the available portal, email and internal receipt records for counsel to assess. The working chronology should show what each record establishes and where the facts remain uncertain.
Engagement boundaries
Court appearances and legal opinions are undertaken only by appropriately qualified and engaged counsel. We do not advertise guaranteed admission, bail, stay or quashing of proceedings.
The proposal states the period, procedural stage, drafting and appearance work included. Share the deadline during intake; a public enquiry does not appoint a representative or extend any statutory time limit.
The handover includes the approved factual record, exhibit index and outstanding information requests. Agree who will obtain business instructions, verify factual statements and communicate with counsel; keep filing and hearing updates linked to the actual documents received.
