Approach and deliverables
We build a register of tax, labour, local and sector permissions and identify which are being surrendered, transferred or retained. Cancellation of one registration does not automatically close the others.
Support includes a closure checklist, final-period data request, application preparation and acknowledgement file. Outstanding notices and record-retention responsibilities remain visible after the portal status changes.
- Identify the entity, branch or activity ending and the registrations affected.
- Match each registration to its authority, premises and covered activity.
- Map final-period work and dependencies before preparing applications.
- Track submission, queries and actual outcomes separately for every registration.
The closure register should identify retained registrations as well as those proposed for cancellation. This makes it easier to see which continuing operations still depend on them.
Records to prepare
- Registration certificates and portal status
- Final business activity and stock information
- Returns, payments and pending notices
- Employee, premises and bank closure details
Include the last transaction or activity date, unsettled amounts and any stock or assets still held at the location. Identify who can retrieve supporting records after staff leave or systems are decommissioned. Keep access responsibilities documented without sharing passwords in the closure pack.
A practical example
Closing a branch may require local registration changes while the legal entity continues elsewhere. Define the branch and entity boundaries before requesting cancellation.
For that branch closure, a useful schedule separates premises-specific permissions, registrations covering several locations and entity-wide records. Assign an owner to each change and retain the evidence supporting the selected treatment. A closed lease or bank account should not be used as proof that the authority has completed a separate cancellation.
Scope and responsibilities
The authority decides cancellation and may seek further information. Final returns, dues and later inquiries are not assumed to disappear; specific registration procedures are checked separately.
The proposal specifies the entities, periods, filings and coordination included. Client approval of factual statements and continuing operational responsibilities is recorded before implementation.
The handover contains the registration inventory, agreed final-period workings, application references and outstanding queries. It identifies a records custodian and contact for later correspondence. The closure journey connects these actions with assets, contracts and the wider business handover.
